Sweet Potato Festival
Vardaman, Mississippi, hosts the
annual Sweet Potato Festival during the
first week of November. Each year the
festival has something new to offer while
continuing the tradition to promote the
sweet potato industry in the Vardaman
area.

We are now the 3rd largest Sweet Potato
producer in the nation.
In 2004 more than 16,500 acres of Mississippi
land was planted in sweet potatoes.
On Average 8000 Acres Of Mississippi Farmland
Are Devoted To Sweet Potato Production.
The Top Five Producing Counties Are Calhoun,
Chickasaw, Pontotoc, Yalobusha, And Humphreys.
Mississippi Sweet Potatoes Contribute $20
Million To The Economy Of The State Each Year.
Sweet Potatoes Have The Highest Dollar Return
Per Acre Of Any Vegetable Grown In The State.
It Takes Approximately 100 To 121 Days To Grow
A Number One Size Potato.
Planting Takes Place In Late May And June And
Harvesting Runs From Late August Through
November.
Sweet Potatoes Bake, Broil, Fry Or Microwave
Just Like Irish Potatoes.
Sweet Potatoes Are An Excellent Source Of
Vitamin A, Vitamin C, And Vitamin B6. They Are
Also
A Good Source Of Potassium Thiamin, Riboflavin,
Niacin, Folacin, Magnesium, Iron And Dietary Fiber.
